What is gospel music?

Gospel music is a combination of authentic Spirit-filled praise, artistic presentation and strong musical emotion which helps to raise the human spirit and was central to the development of rhythm and blues and of soul music.  However, gospel music now takes many forms and adds freedom of expression to many great and popular tunes. Many well known celebrities have gospel music items in their repertoires.

What are we doing?

As the song by J D Means says 'Something good is coming out of this'. Gospel Voices has a mission to bring the joy of gospel music to churches and communities in and around East Dorset.  We have sung at many events and venues and have various bookings for the months ahead.

Through the beauty and exuberance of the music and the message of faith that it delivers we plan to share our joy with others enhancing the welcome that Christianity offers.

We offer the opportunity to you as singers and other musicians who are interested in gospel music to come and share your talents with a like minded group of friendly people.

Members of the choir have attended a workshop and sung with the Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir at St James' Church Piccadilly, London. It has developed a wide repertoire and has a growing number of exciting engagements.

If you like gospel music come and join us.

Do I need singing experience?.   No, we were all given a voice and with a little practice we can use it better.  There is no audition.

Do I need to be a member of St Martin's or another church?.  No, members of any church, faith or none are welcome, but we will be singing and playing music that has messages about faith.

Is there a cost involved?.  Yes, members are requested to make a small contribution to the cost of running the choir.  In 2024 this is £5 per practice week.
