What is gospel music?

Gospel music is defined as the impassioned rhythmic spiritual music rooted in the church singing of rural blacks in the American South, central to the development of rhythm and blues and of soul music.  Click on the picture below to experience the vibrance of the music from the film 'Sister Act'

What we are planning to do?

St Martin's has built a gospel choir with a mission to bring the joy of gospel music to churches and communities in and around East Dorset.

Through the beauty and exuberance of the music and the Christian message that it delivers we plan to share our joy with others enhancing the welcome that Christianity offers.

We offer the opportunity to you as singers and other musicians who are interested in gospel music to come and share your talents with a like minded group of friendly people.

If you like gospel music come and join us.

Do I need singing experience?.   No, we were all given a voice and with a little practice we can use it better.

Do I need to be a member of St Martin's?.  No, members of any church, faith or none are welcome, but we will be singing and playing music that has a Christian message.

What is the commitment if I join the choir?.  The choir will rehearse once a week in the evening during school term times.  When sufficiently prepared the choir will offer to sing at churches or community events approximately once a month.  This may be on a Sunday.

Is there a cost involved?.  Yes, members will be invited to make a small contribution to the cost of running the choir.
